EVENT

ON NE PAIE PAS!

TEATHER COMEDIE DE GENEVE

LOCATION GINEVRA

YEAR 2013

In 2013, Cristian Taraborrelli designed the sets for On ne paie pas!, on ne paie pas! by Dario Fo, staged at the Comédie de Genève under the direction of Joan Mompart.

In this production, Taraborrelli created a setting that reflects the instability and chaos present in the plot, with scenic elements that joyfully disassemble, emphasizing the burlesque and militant tone of the play. His installation transformed the stage into a dynamic space where actors and scenography interact in an unstable balance, mirroring the rebellion and energy of the protagonists.

The show was described as "a surprising performance from Switzerland, delighting audiences of all generations" (théâtre-contemporain.net), highlighting how the staging effectively communicated with a cross-generational audience.

The Comédie de Genève praised the directorial and scenographic approach, describing the show as "one of the most joyous works by Dario Fo, characterized by misunderstandings and comic situations that highlight social inequalities" (comedie.ch).

Journal La Terrasse praised the staging, describing the performance as "an energetic and dynamic interpretation of Dario Fo’s militant farce". The review emphasizes how the set, inspired by Charlot’s cabin in The Gold Rush, represents a precarious environment that reflects the social instability of the protagonists. The actors, led by Brigitte Rosset in the role of Antonia, deliver a lively performance, with rapid dialogues and choreographed movements that highlight the grotesque and tragic character of the represented society (Journal-LaTerrasse.fr).

Le Figaro also recognized the quality of the production, calling the performance "one of the most effective works" of Dario Fo, highlighting how the play manages to engage and entertain the audience while addressing relevant social issues. The scenography, in particular, was praised for its ability to depict a precarious environment reflecting the social instability of the protagonists.

This work contributed to making the performance a visually engaging experience, emphasizing the social and political impact of the original text, with scenography that becomes an integral part of the narrative, amplifying its satirical and revolutionary message.

"This splendid ensemble moves in an unstable balance on a scenography that eventually joyfully falls apart. The installation is designed by Cristian Taraborrelli, whose arrival in Geneva does not go unnoticed."
