ANNO 2013
One of Verdi’s most renowned masterpieces, Macbeth comes to life in a visually powerful staging by Italian director Giorgio Barberio Corsetti, featuring avant-garde set designs by Cristian Taraborrelli. Performances took place on the prestigious stage of La Scala, offering a bold reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s drama.
In the dark rise to power of the protagonist, consumed by ambition and guilt alongside Lady Macbeth, the director explored universal themes of greed, deceit, and fate. Corsetti added new psychological depth to the characters, while Taraborrelli created a stage design in constant motion and transformation, with moving wagons that heightened the dramatic impact.
With a contemporary visual language and a gaze towards the past, this production turned Verdi’s classic into a unique theatrical experience, combining emotion, tradition, and innovation.
